Children want to grow up quickly.

Parents say,

"Enjoy this. You'll miss it."

We, of course,

ignore them.

At sixteen,

we slam the bedroom door

because our parents are unbearable.

Forty years later,

we sit on the balcony,

phone in hand,

waiting for our children

to call.
